Communication is an art and is not limited to the use of words. Colours, emotions, music and deft strokes speak a million words. Students of Grades 1 and 2 at DPS International, Gurgaon, presented a unit of inquiry showcase on March 25, titled ‘Articulate’ to elucidate their learning. The bi-lingual programme amply suggested that expression is not peculiar to any one language. A variety of tools were explored; from the conventional music and movement to the contemporary drama and mime .
The thought provoking extravaganza was graced by Ms Bani Pershad, a kathak exponent and visual artist who has diverse ‘claims to fame’. The showcase saw the presence of esteemed heads of schools, parents and grandparents. Ms Rima Singh, head of school at DPS International delivered an inaugural address and apprised the gathering about ‘how it looks all so easy’ for children from diverse cultures stuck for a night in a museum. Their travails on the show, send them on a journey of revelation and discovery. From the sounds of the drums to the fluttering of the distress flags at sea; means of communication engaged the senses. The various forms of ‘articulation’ did manage to deliver a thought provoking message – is progress going to take away the simple joys of togetherness? Have we become shackled to technology? Ms Pershad was appreciative and shared her views with an audience who seemed overwhelmed by the performance of their children. The showcase concluded with Ms Kamal Shah, Primary School Principal proposing a vote of thanks.
